Everyone should know the premise behind this design.

You don't have to have a lot of specialized stuff to build one that works.

I have made them from #10 cans and smaller cans....you just have to have a good knife.

These require very little wood....and once they get going....they no longer give off smoke.

Seen this somewhere else too. Very good design and execution. Mine is built from solid cinder fountation blocks. Works very well too. Course mine ain't portable. But I ain't planning on going anywhere...

This might be a stupid question, if it is, in my defense I am blonde, What kinda tank is that? Is that one of those ones that forklifts use? And if it has gas in it then how can you cut it with a torch without blowing up?

It's an old refrigerant tank....most scrap yard will give them to you....they cany send them on until they are crushed and punctures.

I got this one from a local scrap yard....they literally had hundreds.

Is there sizes that should be followed? How big are the different tubes you have there? This is and awesome project by the way.

Not really....it's having the flu insulated to super heat the exhaust that is the trick. Like I mentioned....I've built one out of a #10 can.....but have seen one built out of a 30 gallon drum with a 8" pipe for the flu.

I want to build a 2 burner, taller unit....that would be more suited for canning....at least that is the plan....

Echo I am gonna try and make one of these. If you do a 2 burner, please let me know. I would love to see some plans for that. Those would be the trick to can up a freezer full of stuff and not blow off your stock of propane tight after things went downhill. Fantastic idea

I'm planning on making one like that, plus a small wood stove out of 20# propane cylinders. (I have a bunch of old ones).

To cut them without blowing up is simple. Once they are empty, use a rubber mallot and knock the valve loose, and remove it. If you turn it upside down and let it sit for a couple days, any residual gas will run out. If you're still nervous, just fill it with water, and then drain it to cut. 100% safe.

Nice stove, Echo. As Bacpacker stated above that would come in real handy to conserve a limited source of gas.

I hate to be a party poop, but I think this should probably be in the equipment forum instead of the Bushcraft forum, unless you have a cool design that uses natural items like rock and clay.

Of course ive been wrong before.
